About me
Hi cousins! My name is Lisa Bi. I recently moved to Seattle from ATL.I have a food pop up called Ba +Mẹ, aka dad and mom. I wanted to make Vietnamese food that we eat at the table, no pho or banh mi. Spreading that warm belly, nostalgic feeling for other Vietnamese kids who may not be close to the family physically or spiritually. What initially inspired me to even start this pop up was, reconnecting with my family and roots during the pandemic in the only love language they knew, food. The way that warmth and flavor that homestyle Vietnamese food brought to the table often left everyone speechless for long periods leaving only the sounds of chopsticks hitting bowls, slurping, and grunting but it was also a moment where we were all on the same page. Preparing , serving food, slicing a plate of oranges, it was the only way my parents knew how to show love and warmth. I hope to provide everyone that comes through my pop up the same love and warmth, to the point where they know they will always have a seat saved at the table for them. That is why I call everyone a cousin as corny as that sounds. I feel like everyone is far from each other and we need to be closer as a community, a family the world already does a great job of dividing everyone. I just want to unite strangers to be friends and family one dish at a time. I also want to showcase the wide variety of Vietnamese dishes for others to taste that the elders don't think is worth selling due to the uncommon dishes to westerners. I don't want the food to be digestible rather, challenging, confusing, exciting, and memorable. I hope to share that family love and warmth with every bite, and educate people about the cuisine beyond pho and banh mi by being everyone's Viet cousin Bi feeding, guiding them to this other side of Viet food.
